Zapier and Make connect thousands of apps. With them you can add a person to your Shoal event whenever something happens elsewhere, such as a new Google Forms, Typeform or Jotform response, or a new row in a spreadsheet. Shoal doesn't have its own Zapier app yet, so you use their built-in web request step, filled in exactly as below.

Zapier

  1. Create a Zap and set up its trigger, such as Google Forms and New Form Response. Test the trigger so Zapier has a sample answer to work with.
  2. Add an action step and choose Webhooks by Zapier, then the event Custom Request.
  3. Method: POST.
  4. URL: https://shoalevents.com/api/v1/events/EVENT_ID/attendees, with EVENT_ID changed to your event id.
  5. Data: paste the text below. Then delete each word in capitals, like EMAIL, and in its place insert the matching answer from your trigger (click in the box and pick it from the list Zapier shows). Keep the quote marks around each one.
  6. Headers: add two rows. In the first, type Authorization on the left and Bearer, a space, then your key on the right. In the second, type Content-Type on the left and application/json on the right.
  7. Choose Test step. Zapier shows Shoal's answer, which should say created 1. Then publish the Zap.
{"attendees": [{"email": "EMAIL", "first_name": "FIRST NAME", "last_name": "LAST NAME", "job_title": "JOB TITLE", "company": "COMPANY"}]}

Don't need job title or company? Delete those parts, including the comma before each one. To mark people Registered straight away, add , "status": "registered" after the company (they still get no email until you send tickets).

Make

  1. Create a scenario and add the module that starts it, such as Google Forms, Watch Responses.
  2. Add the HTTP app and choose Make a request.
  3. URL: https://shoalevents.com/api/v1/events/EVENT_ID/attendees, with your event id. Method: POST.
  4. Headers: add one with Name Authorization and Value Bearer, a space, then your key.
  5. Body type: Raw. Content type: JSON (application/json).
  6. Request content: paste the same text as in the Zapier steps above, then replace each word in capitals with the matching answer from the first module.
  7. Turn on Parse response, choose Run once, and send a test form response. Shoal's answer should say created 1.
